eCorks was founded in 2003 by a group of casual wine drinkers.
Each time we got together, we lamented (actually, we complained) about the lack
of a simple and convenient way to track our own experiences with wine. Our list of top laments:
- "Do you remember that wine we drank last week at (favorite restaurant name here)?"
- "I bought several bottles from (favorite retailer here) and I can't remember when she told me I should drink any of them!"
- "What did (our wine guy) tell us to drink with tonight's dinner again?"
- "One of these days I will label my bottles..."
You get the idea. We all agreed that we are interested in drinking wine, but not
one of us wanted to enter our wine in a wine database. "Too much work. Besides,
we're all so busy," we said. (The truth? We're all lazy.) That's when we came
up with a grand idea: why not have our favorite retailers upload our purchases and
their tasting notes to the Internet?
eCorks was born. Today, we're designing a simple Internet site where retailers can
upload their customer purchases and all their wine tasting notes, advice, and recommendations.
Customers get this information online - no database management, no software to download,
and no data entry!
