What information do we collect, and how do we use it?
When you open your account, we need to know your name, contact information, and
email address. If you decide to pay by credit card, our credit card processor
needs your credit card information to process payment. (eCorks does not store
or retain your credit card information directly.) This allows us to process and
fulfill your order and to keep you informed about your account and the
applications and databases you are using. We also monitor customer traffic
patterns and site usage, in aggregate, to help us develop the design and layout
of the site.
You have the option to enter additional information about you and your
preferences. This information is typically related to wine and food
preferences, but we may ask for other information about you, such as
demographic data. This information is voluntary, and you are not required to
provide it.
Will we disclose the information we collect to outside parties?
No. eCorks does not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to anyone,
ever. eCorks may provide aggregate statistics about our customers, sales,
traffic patterns, and related site information to reputable third-party
vendors, but these statistics will include no personally identifying
information.
eCorks may release account information when we believe, in good faith, that
such release is reasonably necessary to comply with law, to enforce or apply
the terms of any of our customer agreements, or to protect the rights, property
or safety of eCorks Inc, our customers and clients, our end users, or others.
This applies to your personal information as well as any of your data that is
collected and controlled by us. eCorks will not use, sell, rent, trade or
otherwise disseminate or disclose your data to either itself or any third
party, except as required by law, or by your authorized written request or
consent.
Many customers sign up, purchase or use our services through a third party,
such as a local wine shop. If you sign up, purchase or use our products through
a third party, we will provide that authorized third party with access to your
personal and product data with the exception of your credit card or financial
information. Credit card or financial information is never shared with any
unauthorized party. You may elect to share your data with other third parties
by choice. For example, if you want other wine shops to see your data in
eCorks, you can choose to give them access to your data.
If you purchase or use our products through a third party, you may be affected
by their privacy policies in addition to ours. Please check with your third
party if you have questions about how they manage your personal information.
How do we protect customer information?
When you place orders or access your account information that requires a
financial transaction using a credit card, we offer the use of a secure server.
The secure server software (SSL) encrypts all information you input before it
is transmitted to our database. Furthermore, all of the non-financial customer
data we collect is protected against unauthorized access.
What about "cookies"?
Cookies are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your
computer's hard drive. Our cookies do not contain any personally identifying
information, and they are used only in conjunction with eCorks applications. We
do not read any information other than what we write in the course of your
using the software application.
Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually change your
browser to prevent that. Even without a cookie, you can still use many of the
features on our sites, including taking questionnaires and viewing profiles,
but you may need to accept cookies in order to run certain portions of the
eCorks Web site functions.
If we decide to add new features that require we obtain and store personal
information in a cookie or other type of function, we will update our site and
notify users that this is required to use specific areas of our site.
How do we allow customers to update or change the information we collect?
You may update or change information related to your eCorks account(s) by
accessing your Profile page with your login ID and password. For other
